Extension of the 2008 Interstate Access Undertaking (to February 2019)

On 16 November 2018 ARTC submitted an application to vary its 2008 Interstate Access Undertaking by two months until 28 February 2019.

On 20 November 2018 the ACCC sent a letter to stakeholders seeking comments on ARTC's proposal. Submissions were due by 4 December 2018.

On 12 December 2018, the ACCC consented to ARTC's application to vary its 2008 Interstate Access Undertaking to extend the term to 28 February 2019.

Competition law expert Stephen Ridgeway appointed

ACCC Chair Rod Sims has welcomed Treasurer Josh Frydenberg's announcement today that Stephen Ridgeway will join the agency as a Commissioner.

Mr Ridgeway has been appointed for a term of five years. He brings to the ACCC extensive experience as a leading lawyer specialising in competition and consumer law, including in large-scale litigation, merger review and infrastructure access matters.

Australia Post - letter pricing 2015

Australia Post has provided the ACCC with a draft price notification regarding proposed price increases for letter services. Australia Post is proposing to introduce a basic postage rate of $1 for letters delivered at a new slower timetable, which allows up to an extra three business days for delivery to occur. Postage stamps for letters delivered at the current timetable cost 70 cents. Australia Post’s proposal also includes price increases for the delivery of large letters.

ACCC urges caution with DIY vehicle maintenance

Around 120 Australians have died as a result of do it yourself (DIY) car maintenance accidents since 2000, while many hundreds have been hospitalised due to injuries, and the ACCC is warning consumers to take extra care when repairing their vehicles.

The ACCC has developed a safety campaign which includes a video explaining the correct procedure for common DIY car maintenance tasks to help raise awareness about the associated dangers.
