Inquiries

Under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, the ACCC can be directed to undertake in-depth inquiries into certain matters. Inquiries involve extensive investigation and analysis, including public consultation. We publish our findings in a formal report to help inform consumers, encourage public debate and inform policy consideration.

Dairy inquiry

The ACCC is conducting an inquiry into the competitiveness, trading practices, and transparency of the Australian dairy industry.

Digital platforms inquiry

On 4 December 2017, the Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into digital platforms.

Electricity supply & prices inquiry

On 27 March 2017 the Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, directed the ACCC to hold an inquiry into the supply of retail electricity and the competitiveness of retail electricity prices.

Gas inquiry 2017-2020

On 19 April 2017 the Australian Government directed the ACCC to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into the supply of and demand for wholesale gas in Australia, as well as to publish regular information on the supply and pricing of gas for three years.

Northern Australia insurance inquiry

On 25 May 2017, the Australian Government directed the ACCC to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into the supply of home, contents and strata insurance in Northern Australia.

Residential mortgage products price inquiry

On 9 May 2017 the Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into residential mortgage products.
